About Me

My background

I am a lifelong resident of Huntley. I have served as Village President (Mayor) since May 2021, following a tenure as Village Trustee (2015-2021) and on the Planning and Zoning Commission (2011-2015).

Childhood

At a young age, I knew I would pursue a career in our family excavating business – TJH Contracting, Inc.  TJH was started by my parents, Jan and Terry Hoeft.  Being the child of two entrepreneurs, my parents’ philosophy was you had to be able to manage all aspects of a business. I learned not only how to run the fieldwork, but also manage an office and plan budgets. I am currently President of TJH Contracting, Inc. and assist my Mom at Interior Motives, her interior design business. Both my parents demonstrated a strong work ethic that set the example I follow today.

Furthermore, my Father served as a Village Trustee from 1987-1993, and 2001-2005. I witnessed first hand the hard work, vision, and dedication that several Boards of Trustees undertook for the proactive growth that took Huntley from a community of 1300 to the nearly 30,000 residents today.

Education

My education began in the Huntley school system where several of my teachers continue to be my mentors today.

I graduated Marian Central Catholic High School in 1998 where I participated in band and golf.

I attended the University of Wisconsin Platteville. I graduated in 2002 majoring in degrees of Agricultural Business and Engineering. I am a third-generation excavator and a Local 150 Owner/Operator.

Family

I have spent more than four decades as a Huntley resident. My dream has and always will be to raise my family where I grew up. On one of my first dates with my wife Melissa, I had an interesting discussion topic for our new relationship. I told my wife that I would raise my family in Huntley. Melissa and I married in 2007. Our greatest joys are our children: Miranda (15 years old) and Terrence “TJ” (8 years old). Miranda and TJ are both District 158 students.

Melissa is an Executive Vice President for a regulatory compliance consulting firm that specializes in auditing and consulting with financial institutions. Melissa focuses on Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering compliance. In addition, she is an outside sales travel agent for Huntley Travel.

My family and I value being a part of the Huntley community, whether it is the Farmer’s Market or other community events. In our free time, you will probably find us at a golf course.

Del Webb Family

My mom and her second husband Tom became residents of Del Webb a few years ago. My grandma, who was a resident of Inverness for over 70 years, relocated to beautiful Del Webb last year. They apprise me of what is going on in the neighborhoods. I am thankful for the invitations to many neighborhood gatherings.

I welcome the opportunity to become an active part of more neighborhoods and subdivisions within Huntley.

Community Involvement

I have held many leadership roles over the years, both through community involvement and growing up in the family excavating business.
